Zubiri to Pamplona

In case you wonder about sleeping arrangements, that varies quite a bit from place to place.  Most often in the B&Bs, so far, you end up with 2 single beds beside each other.  But last night was a little different...a very narrow room with 2 beds end to end, so that I could take this picture of Diane from my end of the other bed:

We both had a fitful sleep, some of it due to my snoring (says Diane), and a lot of it due to the church bells announcing every hour and every half hour.  We awoke, as usual, at 6:30, and breakfast was served in a local bar.  We hit the road, again as usual (so far), at 8 a.m.

Once again we found ourselves on beautifully treed trails, with many ancient buildings along the way...

And of course along the way you'll find several places where pilgrims gather for coffee or beer and just to rest our feet...

As we approached  the city of Pamplona, famous for the annual running of the bulls through its city streets (sadly, we're here too early for me to be part of it!), we found ourselves on busy streets but with some very nice old bridges and city walls to reminds us of the age of this place...

We are now in a hotel overlooking the Plaza Castille in the heart of the old city of Pamplona, with outdoor cafés everywhere around the square.  This is our first rest stop, and we'll be here for 2 nights, giving us a chance to explore the place a little more tomorrow.  We all feel it's time for a break, since it's one thing to take a long walk once a week or less, but quite another to do it 3 days in a row.  We have come 70 kms in 3 days, and apart from the expected stiffness and soreness, we're feeling really good - thankful to the Lord for energy and strength to do this at all, and for all the beauty we are experiencing at almost every moment.  And Jeff and Chris are excellent travel companions!!

Distance traveled today: 21.1 kms
Time on the road (always includes rest stops): 6:10
Total distance to date: 70.3 kms
Walking days remaining: 33

  1. Love travelling with you through your blog. I guess sleeping toe to toe like that brings "playing footsie" to a whole new level. Enjoy!!
